Billerica Public Schools Families,

Welcome back students and families! We are excited to update you with the news that Massachusetts students will receive FREE school meals in School Year 2023-2024 and in all future years! Last month, Massachusetts became the 8th state to make Free School Meals for All permanent which means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students for years to come.

Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the Household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2023-2024 school year.  You can view and complete the application at MySchoolApps  We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it allows us to waive or reduce fees for athletics, SAT and AP exams, college applications and to serve families most effectively.  (If you have already received an email stating that your child was Directly Certified for the 2023-2024 school year, you do not need to complete an application.)

If you prefer to complete your application on paper, visit our website billericak12.com to print.  Complete, and return to Billerica Schools Nutrition Services, 35 River Street, Billerica, MA 01821.  Translated applications are available too.

If you are interested, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. More SNAP information can be found at GettingSNAP or by calling Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.

Students may purchase items not included in a complete meal by using their account funds or individual PIN for all transactions and/or purchases.  It is important to understand that students are required to select at least 3 out 5 meal components to meet USDA regulations, however a milk (alone) is available to purchase for $.75.  Middle and High School students will have the option to purchase snacks or a second meal (using their meal account or cash) for an additional charge (individual prices posted in each cafe).  If you would like to deposit money into your child’s meal account for any of the above purchases, you can do so via MySchoolBucks or by sending cash or a check into school with your child.  Please note in order to maintain speed of service, cashiers will not provide change back for cash transactions, funds are deposited directly into the student’s account for future purchases (student account funds are only necessary for non-student meal purchases).

It is our privilege to provide breakfast and lunch to your children, supporting them with nourishing and healthy meals to power through the school day! We can’t wait to see them in the coming weeks. Please reach out with any questions or concerns that you may have.

INFORMATION - LINKS

At Billerica Public Schools we know that good nutrition AND learning go hand in hand.

The Billerica Schools Nutrition Services program provides students with wholesome, nutritious and delicious meals that meet the USDA dietary guidelines for all Americans. Breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks are offered in each café. Menus are emailed home monthly and posted online along with nutritional and other valuable information. Students are offered 5 components at lunch: grains, meat or a meat alternate (protein), fruits, vegetables and milk. As required by the USDA, students must take at least 3 components as part of their lunch and one of those components must be a fruit or vegetable. Students are encouraged to take all 5 components. (For breakfast, students must take 3 food items.)
