Guiding Question: What do we want our students to learn (and experience), and how do we support them in that learning?
All students will develop the critical skills to navigate multiple post-secondary paths and demonstrate college and career readiness. Students will effectively listen and communicate, understand the perspective of others, engage in constructive problem-solving with others, attain media literacy, and feel empowered to be curious and to take risks in their own learning.
Curriculum, instruction, and teaching resources will be developed and/or utilized that are of high-quality and representative of multiple diversities, respond to the diverse learning needs of all students and infuse accessibility, with multiple ways of learning, throughout their PreK-12 educational experiences.
All students will know how governance structures work, how to utilize student agency and voice, and understand the value of investing and immersing in local communities, taking into account the current diversity and dynamics of their own communities.
Guiding Question: How do we establish positive school cultures in which students can grow and learn?
Cultivate an educational environment that builds on accepting and respecting differences where everyone is seen and valued so that students and staff feel safe, a strong sense of belonging, and connection to the school community.
Develop and strengthen students’ social emotional well-being by fostering skills of self-awareness, advocacy, and empathy, as well as increasing their understanding that mistakes are a part of learning and that they have the capacity to persevere.
Build, develop, and support a nurturing faculty that is highly qualified to support and respond to the social emotional needs of all students, and utilizes the resources necessary to create an empathetic and inclusive environment where all students are accepted and encouraged to grow, both socially and academically.
Guiding Question: How do we ensure that ALL students (and ALL means ALL!) are valued and supported within our schools?
Review and refine the district’s curriculum in all subject areas to ensure that it is reflective of the diversity of the student body, and includes materials with diverse characters/figures, perspectives, storytellers, and historical/current events.
Ensure all staff meet the expectation of using culturally responsive practices with students (e.g., instruction, access to high-level coursework, social-emotional support, discipline) and with families (e.g., communication, inclusivity, including with non-native speakers of English) through training and consistent support.
Foster relationships among staff members and students to build a culture of empathy and understanding in the school community in which every student is able to be true to their authentic self and believes that they have a relationship with at least one trusted adult in their school community.
Guiding Question: How do we ensure that we have the resources we need to help our students grow and learn?
Secure sustainable funding for the district operating budget to ensure sufficient staffing and resources to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of all students within a diverse student body.
Enhance school facilities and environments to support positive school climates that are inclusive of the needs of all students and the demands of an evolving curriculum.
Collaborate with Town of Billerica government to fund and implement a facilities plan that is financially attainable and responsive to both current and future goals of the district.
